Listello Tile Update, Fireplace Complete, and Finish Electrical Started

For those who have been following the blog, you might recall that they installed the wrong listello in the owner's bathroom.  Apparently the listello we picked out is no longer available from the manufacturer, Dal Tile.  So we were given the option to go in and reselect our listello or our PM suggested we could go to Home Depot and pick out a new listello and he would go purchase it and have it installed.  We thought that was nice, but then we came up with another idea.  The glass shower enclosure comes in a chrome finish, unless you pay to upgrade it to bronze or nickel.  We were not crazy about the chrome finish, but their price to upgrade was quite high.  So we suggested to our PM that we could leave the installed listello in place and simply upgrade to the brushed nickel shower enclosure.  They agreed to it, so we are keeping the tile and getting brushed nickel.  Appears to be a win-win situation!

In other news our fireplace stonework has been completed.  We picked Bucks County Ledgestone and are very happy with the end result.

Finally the electrical trim-out has been started.  Recessed light trims are installed.  Doorbell is working.  Chandeliers in dining room and foyer are in and outside lighting installed.  Things are starting to come together.  Less than 1 month to go!

  1. Awesome score on the nickel enclosure. I hate the chrome shower, but nickel wasn't an option (the upgrade was for everything but the shower enclosure). I've seen in new models that now they do offer the nickel enclosure, so I may see if I can get the glass company's info.

    1. In our area, brushed nickel doorknobs, hinges, and light fixtures come standard. Faucets, towel bars, t.p. holders, and shower enclosures are chrome. Wish they would make everything nickel to begin with and then make oil rubbed bronze the upgrade option.

    1. Thank you! It was a bit extra, but we really wanted it and didn't think it would be real easy to add down the road.

    1. Thank you! I'm sure it will. We really liked all of the stacked stone options, but we saw this one in person at a model so we went with it.

    1. Thank you! The windows just add so much light and seem to create the illusion of more space. Plus the cross ventilation should be nice!

  5. Your fireplace looks great! I am also building a courtland gate but have not started a blog yet. I didn't get the 4 foot extension (tried to add later but the deadline for structural changes had passed). I decided on a granite fireplace, in part because without the extension I thought the stone fireplace would be too much for that wall. I am outside of the 30 day change window but since I have not had my pre-construction meeting, I am hoping my SR will accommodate a change to stone. I have not seen a CG without the extension and wanted to get your feedback on what you think of the size of the room with the stone FP. Nice job on the brushed nickel negotiation!

    1. Since the room is almost 16' wide, we didn't think the 4' extension was necessary. Even with the stone fireplace it still feels very spacious. I think the extra side windows help with that. We were actually able to make structural changes after the window had passed since they hadn't ordered the lumber yet. You should be able to get the stone fireplace since it really doesn't change much structurally. There is a little additional framing installed, but it is all site built and is done inside anyway. Can't hurt to ask, right? Let us know when you start your blog, there aren't too many Courtland Gate blogs out there!

  6. Good job on the upgrade.. Im not sure why the sales rep doesnt inform everyone about the faucets , door knobs, light fixture color choices !!! We were able to view the other Vic Falls in waterhouse landing and saw that they had bronze door knobs and lights, but a different color shower surround, so we made sure to ask and of course it was an upgrade to match everything!!!I am glad they accomodated you guys though !!! They also screwed up on our listello and asked if we wanted it redone, but we just left it because we were afraid it would of been worse if they tore it all apart !!

    1. This must be different depending on region. We saw the same thing visiting models in other regions and states other than ours. We asked several times during the process, "Are you sure we get the matching shower surrounds?" Every time they replied with yes. No upcharge for this feature. Weird.

    2. It's kind of strange that they don't just match all of the metal hardware to begin with, but I guess it's a way to make a little more money. We were a bit concerned about them removing the existing listello and trying to re do it and get everything flush. So this option worked out for the best.

  7. Love the stone. We really wanted the stone fireplace but would have lost our big window in the family room because they would take the stone all the way to the ceiling in the 2 store family room. Would have looked awesome but lost a major architectural feature of the house.

  9. Love the fireplace and windows.. I had to look at the windows for a while and wonder if they were double patio doors separated by a fireplace or just windows.. Very sharp looking.
Is that another house that can be seen through the windows?

    1. Thank you! The windows really add light and dimension to the room. Yes, that is the neighbors Avalon next door.

  10. We are doing the same fireplace with Bucks County Ledgestone. It is also the stone on the front of the house too. I'm glad you are getting a nice unexpected upgrade. Everything is coming together nicely.
